Hey everyone, I have an update to share on how ABC Labs will be operating in 2026. After discussing over the last few weeks, Thomas and I agreed that the next phase of ABC Labs is best led directly by me. Over the next two weeks I’ll be stepping into the CEO role at ABC Labs, and Thomas will be stepping down from day-to-day leadership. We’ll complete the transition before the end of the year, and in early 2026 Thomas will stay on as an advisor to provide continuity. I’ll retain my role as President of Confusion Capital and manage both teams. Thomas has led the team through a pivotal period with two protocol launches, multiple partnerships, and built a strong team. We both realized that the next chapter will benefit from a founder-driven approach where we can iterate quickly and give me full accountability. As part of this change, we’ve made a few adjustments to the ABC team based on how I plan to operate. For now I’ll be directly overseeing branding and marketing. More importantly, we’re unhappy with the level of true product-market fit for DTFs so far, so ABC Labs is going into “founder mode” on DTFs themselves instead of only acting as maintainer of the neutral platform. Concretely: think of this next phase of ABC Labs as an in-ecosystem DTF product lab. We’re going to treat each RToken like a startup: it needs to solve a high-value job for a specific allocator, be presented to enable trust and comprehension, be placed in front of the right customers at the right times, and be available on the venues target customers are comfortable with. Our goal is to build a suite of successful DTFs that cover the different types of investment products people want and need, and use those to jumpstart the broader ecosystem. To do that, we’re going to: (a) Spend a lot more time talking to existing and potential users to deeply understand their needs, concerns, and constraints. (b) Hire for and personally become experts in investment product design, so we’re correctly applying the fundamentals. So far, our strategy of mainly supporting external parties to launch the DTFs they imagine hasn’t connected as well as we’d hoped. To fix that, we’re taking matters into our own hands and building a proper product line on top of the protocol. There are two key strategy questions we haven’t decided on yet: 1. Whether to open up permissionless DTF creation on the reserve.org front end that ABC maintains 2. Whether ABC Labs should directly create DTFs, or just design them and then seek external teams to implement Both have nuanced pros and cons. We’ll keep you guys up to date on these questions. I’ve been quiet in the RSR Health thread the past couple of weeks because I’ve been preparing and executing this transition: informing the team last Tuesday, making some hard calls about roles, and then meeting 1:1 with everyone in ABC and Confusion Capital to sync up on how this new phase will work. We have some ideas we’re excited about to share on RSR Health and I’ll aim to write those up before the Christmas holiday. I am deeply grateful for what Thomas and the ABC team have already built since the protocol launched in October 2022. Reserve today is a serious platform: we’ve had hundreds of millions of dollars in the contracts with no exploits, we’re regularly complimented on the UI and the DTF concept, and we shipped an entire second version of the protocol that expanded the canvas of what Reserve can support. That is the foundation that lets us now focus our attention on what we build on top of it. Thomas leading ABC Labs also freed me up to run Monetarium and to start and lead the Digital Securities Initiative. Monetarium has started to build a new kind of expert community around Reserve, and the DSI has put us in a strong position to integrate regulated tokenized assets into DeFi and eventually into DTFs.
